Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies Office Building Renovation and Expansion

KFI was contracted to provide the energy modeling, engineering, and commissioning services for the expansion and renovation of Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies’ office building. Sustainable design was a focal point of this project. The owner desired and received a LEED Platinum rating for the facility. This desire for energy efficiency and sustainability led the client to hire KFI for the complete design of the building’s MEP systems. In addition to redesigning portions of the existing building, a two story addition was constructed. The expanded portion of the building includes outdoor work areas, collaborative meeting spaces, a central cafe, fitness room, and workspaces with ample access to natural light. The building also incorporates energy efficient, motion-activated lighting and high quality indoor air supported by state of the art HVAC systems.

University of Minnesota – Williams Arena Roof Replacement

KFI was contracted to provide mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and energy modeling services for the University of Minnesota’s, Williams Arena and Sports Pavilion Roof Replacement project. The facility, originally constructed in 1928, has undergone multiple renovations over the years, but energy inefficiencies and deterioration from failing roof drains and leakage made it necessary to replace the roof in its entirety. As part of the roof replacement, KFI provided the engineering necessary to replace of all the MEP rooftop drainage systems.

Roseville Indoor Skating Center

The Roseville Skating Center is comprised of an indoor arena, the outdoor John Rose OVAL, banquet rooms, and meeting rooms. Built in 1969 on a campus of City of Roseville buildings, the skating center was in need of substantial upgrades to its aging and inefficient infrastructure. Looking for a sustainable solution to replace the outdated systems, the City of Roseville turned to KFI to conduct a facility study and provide options and recommendations for the best path forward. Following the City’s review of the study and option selection, KFI was retained to provide the project design.

Alexandria Public Schools New High School

KFI was contracted to provide LEED mechanical and electrical engineering services for the new 280,000 square-foot Alexandria High School. Prior to performing design services, KFI worked with the district to produce pre-design documents to be used during the referendum process. An approved bond referendum provided the means to construct a new environmentally friendly high school.

Wadena – Deer Creek New High School

In 2010, a severe tornado passed through Wadena and surrounding areas and destroyed the Wadena-Deer Creek High School. Immediate action was required, and it was quickly decided that a new high school should be constructed as opposed to rebuilding the old school. KFI was contracted to provide LEED mechanical and electrical engineering services for the construction of the new school.
