IAAI Fire Investigation Technician

Fresh out of school with a degree in mechanical engineering, Nick started working as a fire sprinkler designer for a contractor in the Twin Cities. With a passion for modeling and problem-solving, he quickly developed a love for construction and mechanical systems. For Nick, fire protection presented a unique set of challenges that interested and inspired him because of its impact on people’s lives.

Nick joined KFI while pursuing his Professional Engineering license. He wanted to develop as a Fire Protection Engineer and KFI offered the perfect opportunity to shift focus from contracting to engineering. Working at KFI has allowed him to grow through the wide range of projects and industries it serves. The company’s multidisciplinary nature has given him a more holistic understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design and development. Nick is also involved in the local chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers and continues to develop his expertise in KFI’s special hazards, industrial fire protection, and forensic investigation. One of the aspects he enjoys most about his role is the ability to work through fire protection design solutions with project teams early on to provide the greatest value to the final product. Nick brings excitement for learning in everything he does because he’s found that some of the most fascinating parts of this world are often in unexpected places.

Outside of work, Nick tries to balance his love of endurance sports, cooking good food, and spending time with his family.

The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand. - Vince Lombardi
