As part of the ongoing three year Capitol Restoration Project, encompassing multiple buildings on the capitol complex, KFI was contracted to provide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering, as well as commissioning services for multiple phases of the project.
The first phase included the repurposing and relocation of data centers located around the capitol complex. The existing Network Operations Centers (NOC’s) were consolidated and relocated. KFI determined and recommended repurposing options for each of the State’s identified NOC’s. The change in space utilization required the removal and installation of both mechanical and electrical systems in the existing and proposed data center spaces.
The areas throughout the Capitol Complex that needed restoration were occupied spaces, therefore, tenants needed to be moved. This phase of the project included the phased vacating of current occupants to other areas, while the necessary remodeling is performed.
KFI developed the preliminary scope, cost, and schedule to decommission each space, and completed the necessary modifications and improvements to ensure each space would be usable for future tenants. For the improvements, KFI developed construction documents, assisted with construction bids, and provided construction administration services throughout construction. Throughout the design, construction, and turnover of the new spaces, KFI’s independent commissioning team performed technical commissioning tasks to ensure conformance to the design documents and functionality of systems.
New equipment included electrical panels, heating terminal units, variable air volume units, LED lighting, low flow plumbing fixtures, and split system cooling units.
This process of assessing, relocating, and renovating the spaces was conducted for the following projects with renovated spaces totaling approximately 60,000 square feet.
