Projects

It’s been a busy year at KFI. Here are some projects that were completed in 2024:

Abbott Northwestern Hospital

KFI provided the design for a new central utility plant and associated distribution at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, a 700-bed teaching and specialty hospital in the Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis. KFI also executed an expedited master planning effort prior to beginning design.

University of Arizona Thermal Vacuum Chamber

The University of Arizona’s thermal vacuum chamber (TVC) is now operational. The TVC, which can replicate the exact environmental conditions found in space, is the largest in the world on a university campus. KFI provided the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering, process controls design and integration, and commissioning services for the project.

Boone National Guard Headquarters

In August, the Kentucky National Guard held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of a new Joint Force Headquarters. KFI designed the fire protection, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems for the building that supports training, administrative and logistical requirements of the Kentucky Army and Air National Guard Joint Force Stations.

City of Duluth City Hall

KFI provided mechanical and electrical design as well as energy modeling services for Duluth’s City Hall, originally constructed in 1927. The project replaced obsolete ventilation systems, control humidity, modernized building controls, and helped meet current standards for accessibility and life safety. KFI oversaw the construction administration processes, including providing an on-site field representative three days a week.

St. Croix County Government Center

KFI is proud to be a part of the team contributing to the first major renovation for the St. Croix County Government center since it was built nearly 30 years ago. We are providing a wide range of services for the renovation and expansion, including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, controls design and programming, systems commissioning, performance testing, and test and balance.

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center

Congratulations to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center for being named one of the best children’s hospitals in the country by U.S. News & World Report. KFI provides all of the engineering, commissioning and controls services involving mechanical and electrical systems at the CCHMC main campus.
