Challenge

Indiana University Health Systems required complete retro-commissioning of their six-story, 320,000 square-foot pathological lab facility. Indiana University Health’s laboratories conduct more than 19 million tests a year and operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Approach

KFI tested all laboratory supply and exhaust systems, as well as supply and exhaust terminal units, for correct operation and calibration. To verify correct air changes and pressure relationships within the lab and building, KFI performed a complete test and balance on the laboratory spaces and HVAC systems. Additionally, KFI also tested and commissioned the DDC control systems for both the buildings HVAC and the laboratory supply and exhaust systems.

Outcome

Throughout the retro-commissioning process, KFI focused on improving the laboratories’ building performance. The facility continues to provide comprehensive testing to hospitals and physicians across the country.
