The existing Chiller 7 at the Purdue University Wade Utility Plant was at its end of life and needed to be replaced. A recent study conducted by KFI determined that the best replacement option was an electric driven, 5,000-ton machine. The University contracted KFI Engineers to provide mechanical and electrical design services for the replacement.

Currently, in the extraction phase, this project’s scope includes the removal of a 3,000-ton steam-driven chiller, installation of a new 5,000-ton electric-drive chiller, variable-speed drive, and a new 8,100 gpm chilled water distribution pump, along with modifications to ancillary piping, controls, and electrical systems.
